Description

Description

Hemas Power, part of Hemas Group, was planning the development of the 2.4MW expansion of the 4.6MW Magal Ganga Mini Hydropower Plant, Magal Ganga, Sabaragamuwa province. Total capacity was to be 6MW. The project company name was Magal Ganga Power Company Private Limited. The expansion also seems to be refered to as Upper Magal Ganga, which is developed via the project company Okanda Power Grid Pvt. Ltd. It is not 100% certain these are the same plants, but capacity is exactly the same. The project was to supply electricity to the Ceylon Electricity Board. Commissioning of the expansion was expected for September 2011, but realized in August 2011. Sri Lanka has a standard PPA for mini hydropower. Tariff is different in rain season or dry season. Hovers around $0.06/kWh. The project was fully financed through equity. Total investment cost was Rs. 450 million ($3.4 million). http://www.hemas.com/mahal-ganga-readmore Source: Lanka Business Online: Sri Lanka Hemas Power Investts Rs. 450 Million to Up Hydro Capacity (9 March 2011).
