Description | The Hemavathi Link Canal Project, also known as the Kunigal Express Link Canal or Sriranga Drinking Water Project, aims to address drinking water shortages in Magadi (Ramanagara district) and Kunigal (Tumakuru district) taluks by channeling water from the Hemavathi river to the Sriranga Lake in Magadi. The project involves diverting Hemavathi river water to Sriranga lake through a pipeline to supply drinking water to Magadi and Kunigal taluks. Kunigal taluk was allocated 3.676 TMC of water but received only 10% over the past decade. The project hopes to rectify this deficit without impacting upstream taluks. The project was initially commissioned in 2018 and work resumed in 2023, with Rs 400 crore already released for the project. |
