The development includes equipping the precinct with high-security dry docks for maintenance of nuclear-powered submarines, facilities to build landing craft, and eventually Japanese Mogami-class frigates. The United States is also expected to use the shipyard for maintenance of its own nuclear-powered submarines. Total development costs could reach an estimated Aus$25 billion. |
