This is an investment proposal for the continued production of orange sweet potatoes processing program. The general goal of the project is to increase agricultural production and reduce poverty and malnutrition within Bungoma County and specific sub counties in Busia and Kakamega by strengthening food security and improve incomes of small farm holds. Increase in productivity, will help create employment among the youth and women engaging in the OSFP value chain. The project time frame is 12 months with anticipation of improving income, employment and regional supply for 3000 direct beneficiaries 15000(5 people per farm household) indirect beneficiaries who will benefit in improved food security and nutrition in the Orange Flashed Sweet Potato value chain. The input required will be the following: • Extension services • Value addition equipment’s/machineries • Market systems development • Personnel • Enterprise capacity development • Packaging and branding • operations • Process certification, quality control and Intellectual Property certifications. The intervention will strengthen Hequeendo management practices in terms of supplier and buyer loyalty thus enabling the enterprise potentiality to reach large numbers of small holder farmers and be able to operate all year round. The supported action will create demand for products in new market and sustainable markets leading to increased firms profitability. The intervention will lead to cost effectiveness in terms of storage and transport expanses since value addition will reduce bulkiness of the product.
