Mortenson Development has proposed to construct the first phase of a data-processing facility that could become a 1.8 million-square-foot data center in the rural southwest corner of Hermantown, Minnesota. The project is the largest ever proposed in Hermantown and has faced opposition due to concerns about noise, environmental harm, electric grid strain, water demands, and runoff impact on trout streams. Mortenson Development has paused permit requests to allow for more public discourse and consideration, planning an open house to provide further information and engage with the community.
