Union Fenosa ACEX, the international operations subsidiary of Spain's Union Fenosa, won the international bid for the construction, operation and maintenance (BOO basis) of Hermosillo power station, in competition with eight international operators. Hermosillo Power Station (250-MW, Gas-fired Combined Cycle) will be built in the state of Sonora in Northern Mexico. The plant was supposed to enter service by June 2001. Fenosa has to raise the $160 million needed to finance construction and will have a 25-year power-purchase agreement with CFE. Fenosa will import natural gas to fuel the plant from El Paso Energy Marketing, an agreement arranged in December 1999. In 1999, the IADB approved an US$ 48.8 million A loan and an US$ 86.8 million B loan to the project company.
