Description | The EU technology project HEROPS aims to develop innovative technologies for a climate-neutral, hydrogen-powered electric powertrain based on MTU's Flying Fuel Cell. The project targets powering regional aircraft starting in 2035. The initial design phase for the megawatt-class powertrain has been successfully concluded, marking a significant milestone. The design is expected to be finalized by the end of 2025, followed by experimental validation including component tests and wind tunnel evaluations. A 1.2-megawatt ground demonstrator is under construction at MTU Aero Engines in Munich for functional and performance testing. The project is anticipated to conclude by the end of 2026. |
