Description

Description

Herring Cove Community Association (HCCA) was formed as a not-for-profit organization, to acquire the property at 30 Latter Pond Lane, Herring Cove and re-open it as a community centre. The HCCA sought a facility design that would integrate green practices, with cost effective energy measures to provide ongoing operational savings. It was vital to ensure that accessibility and inclusion were incorporated into the design. We enlisted the services of Solterre Design, an architectural firm specializing in the development of green, sustainable buildings with creative space planning, including considerations for adaptive reuse, universal accessibility, functional adaptability, and convertibility of spaces. The HCCA desires to provide a space for recreational activities and events for all ages, genders and ethnicities, to be accessible and barrier-free, with universal design standards, to connect diverse populations, such as seniors, youth, people with special needs and new immigrants.
