Description | The 300-acre Hershey Rail Park in Nebraska has been officially designated as the state's first Union Pacific (UP) Focus Site. This designation aims to provide businesses with enhanced rail access, reduce connection uncertainties, and expedite market entry. The site meets criteria including approved rail design, large-scale development area, accessible utilities and roads, local development support, and a single controlling landowner. The project began in 2020 with the Nebraska Public Power District Site Readiness Assistance Program and has involved purchasing six parcels of land. The Nebraska Legislature's funding commitment through the Nebraska Rural Projects Act made the project financially feasible. The site is also the first designated Inland Port Authority in Nebraska, with a drop and pull yard and transload area currently in the design phase and soon to be under construction. |
