Description | This project is a 16-MW hydroelectric plant located in San Carlos. The plant was developed on a Build-Own-Operate basis by Saret SA and Steel Technologies SA. The total project cost was $20 million in 1995. The power plant started commercial operations in July 1996. Hidroelectrica El Platanar SA signed a 15-year power purchase agreement with Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE), the Costa Rican national electricity utility company. The power purchase agreement was one of the 20 contracts that ICE signed with private developers at the beginning of 1990s. Only six projects have an installed capacity of 10-MW or more. The project was financed by the InterAmerican Investment Corporation (IAIC). |
