Description | Hidroelectrica Santa Cruz, a partnership of the Peruvian company GCZ Ingenieros (76%) and Latin America Power (24%), was granted the right to build and operate four small hydro power plants located in the Blanco River and Huasahuasi River, provinces of Caraz and Tarma, respectively. The first two small hydro power plants, Central Hidroelectrica Santa Cruz I and Central Hidroelectrica Santa Cruz II had a capacity of 3 MW each and were located at the Blanco River. Central Hidroelectrica Santa Cruz I commenced operations in May 2009 and demanded US$ 6.5 million in investment. Central Hidroelectrica Santa Cruz II, which applied for carbon credits in 2009, started operating in May 2010 (investment figures on this project was not available). In March 2010, Hidroelectrica Santa Cruz was granted the right to build and operate the power plants Central Hidroelectrica Huasahuasi I (10 MW) and Central Hidroelectrica Huasahuasi II (10 MW) located at the Huasahuasi River. The sponsor committed to invest US$ 17.4 million in the construction of the Central Hidroelectrica Huasahuasi I, which became operational in January 2012. The investment in Central Hidroelectrica Huasahuasi II was estimated at US$ 14.5 million, and the power plant commenced operations in April 2012. |
