Description | The Manso project involves the construction and operation of four 52.5-MW generating units with a total construction cost of US$ 237.8 million. The project was initially conceived in 1988, but implementation only started in 2000, when the state-owned company Furnas formed a joint-venture with private sponsors to finance the project. The project company is owned by Furnas (70%) and Proman, a joint-venture of Odebrecht and Servix (30%). The 35-year contract was signed in Feb. 2000 and the construction works began immediately. In Dec. 2000, the first unit started operation, and full operation occured in April 2001. The electricity generated by the plant will attend around 1.2 million consumers. |
