The Highway Construction and Improvement Project for Israel is designed to meet the needs of the increased population. New towns are being built, unused land is being bought, immigration continues to increase, and tourism is expected to grow steadily. The current rising living standards are causing an increase in private car ownership which results in traffic congestion. This project will consist of reconstruction of roads, widening, surfacing, shoulder strengthening, as well as creating roads for easier access in order to handle the increased traffic flow of vehicles. The transportation demands are greatly influenced by the physical shape of the country, the location of economic activities, and the growth of the population and economy. This project will help prevent traffic congestion, car accidents, and meet the anticipated traffic demands of the future.
