Description

Description

The Highway Maintenance and Improvement Project for Peru will help finance: maintenance equipment, spare parts, and the services of consultants to enable the Highway Department to further strengthen, and improve its maintenance operation; a 200 km paving program, the replacement of some obsolete bridges on the Pan-American Highway; the purchase and installation of traffic counters, and scales for the regulation of road traffic, and part of the cost of a highway, and transport commission study. This project will improve road conditions by proper maintenance, induce a decrease in trucking rates, and in the cost of goods transported because of the reduced cost of upkeep for trucks, savings in fuel, and operating costs, the longer useful life of vehicles and more rapid turnabout. There will be substantial benefits for the general economy from savings in the production of goods, reduced inventories, resulting from the ability to move things faster over better roads throughout the year.
