Description | The Highway Maintenance Project for Peru will assist in financing a maintenance program for the highway system of Peru. Because of the topographic conditions in Peru, an integrated railroad system was never developed. As a result, the highway system has become the most important link between the different regions of the country and essential to the transportation of goods from the interior to the coast at a reasonable cost. Currently, a large part of the highway system is in poor condition due to the lack of proper maintenance. The project will help to improve the highway system by: 1) importing maintenance equipment, tools, spare parts, repair shop machinery and materials; and 2) providing foreign technical assistance. These additions will improve the highway system in Peru in order to provide safe and reliable transportation routes and promote economic development. |
