Description | The Highway (Plan Vial I) Project for Colombia will provide a loan of US $16.5 million to the Government of Colombia to complete its highway rehabilitation program. The highway system is in poor condition. It is unable to provide reliable transportation for travelers in Colombia. The inadequacy of the system is a huge obstacle to the economic development of the country. In order to resolve these problems, the Government of Colombia has instituted a major program to improve roads and highways. The project will promote the rehabilitation program by: 1) constructing and reconstructing 3,000 kilometers of highways; 2) implementing maintenance programs; 3) purchasing equipment to construct and maintain roads and highways; and 4) constructing a new road between Cienaga and Barranquilla. These improvements will modernize the highway system in Colombia in order to provide safe and reliable transportation to travelers and promote economic development. |
