Description | The Highway Project for Colombia will provide a loan of $16.5 million to the Colombian Ministry of Public Works to purchase from abroad construction equipment and materials and to pay for the services of engineers and contractors for a highway rehabilitation program. Highways are the most important transportation routes in Colombia. They carry a greater volume of traffic than any other form of transportation in the country. Currently, the highway system is in poor condition and inadequate to serve the commercial and commuting passengers in Colombia. The project will help to resolve this problem by constructing 155 kilometers of new roads and reconstructing 2,906 kilometers of trunk highways. These improvements will modernize the highway system in order to provide safe and reliable transportation routes for travelers in Colombia. |
