Description | The Technical Report on the Road Rehabilitation Project in Ethiopia will provide the foreign exchange for the cost for equipment, spare parts, imported materials, and foreign know-how. This project will consist of opening new approaches to the Blue Nile Bridge, resurfacing the road from Addis Ababa to Addis Alem, rehabilitation of part of the Assab Road, resurfacing part of Asmara Road, repairing part of Jimma Road, Lekempti Road, Neghelli Road, Assella Road, and opening a new road from Sire to Goute. The poor conditions of the Ethiopian roads is due to a lack of proper management and a lack of funds for maintenance and repair work. This project will provide repair, largely resurfacing, while two-thirds will provide preventive maintenance to avert serious degeneration. Considering the important part of the freight transported by road, there is very good reason for Ethiopia to make the largest effort consistent with her financial means to maintain and improve the important road network she inherited from the Italian occupation. |
