Description | The Him Sarovar project aims to develop a network of artificial water bodies across Ladakh to conserve snowmelt and address long-term water scarcity challenges. The first artificial water body has been inaugurated and operationalised at village Phikar, Stok, by restoring a heavily silted natural depression, cleaned, dredged, and stone-pitched to prevent seepage. The water body covers 1,824 square metres, stores nearly 35 lakh litres, and benefits around 150 hectares of agricultural land. The project proposes to develop 50 water bodies (30 in Leh and 20 in Kargil), covering nearly 25% of villages in Ladakh. |
