Description
Description | The Hinkley Point C nuclear plant is a twin-reactor station in Somerset, UK, owned by France's EDF. It is one of Britain's most delayed and expensive infrastructure projects, with costs ballooning past £40 billion. The project has faced rising costs and repeated delays, with China General Nuclear Power Corp withdrawing support in late 2023. Apollo Global Management is preparing to lend £4.5 billion to fill a funding gap, allowing construction to continue without immediate state financing. The first reactor is expected to begin generating electricity by 2029, supplying energy to six million homes and generating around 3.2GW of electricity to help stabilize the UK's grid during the transition to renewables. |
