Description

Description

The HIV/AIDS epidemic causes great human suffering in the countries of Central Africa and represents a major obstacle to development due to the high direct and indirect economic costs. The aim of the project is to strengthen prevention work in the countries of Cameroon, Chad, the Central African Republic, the Republic of Congo and Gabon as part of a regional project. The focus of the measures is on the target group of young people (15-24 years). As part of a so-called social marketing approach, measures are carried out that improve the target group's knowledge of HIV/AIDS and lead to a responsible approach to the risks of HIV infection. In addition to HIV/AIDS, other sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies are also addressed. In order to enable poor population groups to use high-quality condoms, their sale in retail stores is subsidized by the project. The income from the sale of condoms is reinvested in the project. The total cost of the project is EUR 23 million, of which EUR 20 million will be financed from the FZ contribution and EUR 3 million from revenue from condom sales. The duration of the project is 3 years.
