The Sustainable Soil Mixing project aims to create a recipe for soil mixtures that both break down soil contamination and at the same time keep the soil viable for construction. Current methods of cleaning up contaminated clay soil require either extensive ground transportation and material consumption or heating the soil. Both methods are very energy-intensive. Sustainable Soil Mixing wants to develop the method of “oil mixing” — mixing the soil with degrading substances and stabilisers. In this way, the project wants to find a recipe for the degradation of pollutants that do not affect the sustainability of the soil, but hold for land use and construction. The experiments will be carried out on both sides of Öresund. The project highlights that Danish actors are among the world’s leading actors in testing and implementing new methods for soil pollution. The Swedish side has been working with soil mixing for soil stabilisation for decades.
