Description | The Fifth Social Investment Fund Project will continue the successful program of the Fondo Hondureno de Inversion Social (FHIS), aimed at increasing access among the poor to small-scale social, and economic infrastructure, at developing social assistance programs, and at contributing to sustainable investments. Mostly, it will fulfill the objectives of the Fourth Social Investment Fund Project, whose resources were utilized towards reconstruction efforts, following Hurricane Mitch devastation in November 1998. The components are: 1) Subproject financing will enable the continued FHIS support for the expansion/improvement of basic social, and economic infrastructure, including training provision in operations, and maintenance. Technical services will be financed for the design, supervision, and training for capacity building, in addition to consulting services for impact evaluation. 2) Special programs will develop local institutional strengthening, through innovative approaches, and methodologies to involve communities, and local governments in working together. Rural water, and sanitation services will be strengthened, the Social Assistance Innovations Fund developed, and the organization Nuestras Raices will promote indigenous, and Afro-Honduran social capital, through training and TA provision. 3) Project management include FHIS operating costs, TA and training. |
