Description | Homer City Redevelopment is transforming the site of a former coal power plant in Indiana County into a natural gas-fired power plant and data center. The new plant will generate more than twice the electricity of the old plant, with a capacity of up to 4.5 gigawatts, enough to power about 3.5 million homes. Construction includes clearing 93,000 tons of steel and scrap metal and vertical construction of a building for electric interconnection equipment. The project aims to finish by 2029 and will employ about 200 full-time workers at the plant and up to 3,600 during peak construction. |
