Description

In October 2012, the the Spanish group Ortiz won the public bidding for the sale of its electricity production to the national grid through a 15-year power purchase contract with Empresa Electrica de Guatemala (EEGSA), which was signed early in 2013. Later that year, the power purchase agreement was transferred to Anacapri S.A., a subsidiary of the Guatemalan group Onyx. The solar project located in Departamento de Chiquimula was named Horus Energy. The photovoltaic solar power plant with 50 MW in capacity was named Horus I solar power plant. The sponsor committed to invest US$ 100 million in the power plant. The EPC contract was undertaken by the Spanish group Ortiz. Construction works commenced in March 2014, and commercial operations started in March 2015. In August 2014, Anacapri was awarded another power purchase agreement for the sale of an additional 30 MW of electricity. The sponsor signed another EPC contract with group Ortiz to built this news unit, which was named Horus II solar power plant. Construction works were expected to commence in August 2015.
