Description | After the Mauritian telecommunications market was liberalized in December 2002, the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (ICTA) of Mauritius issued 14 telecommunications licenses – 10 international long distance licenses, 1 fixed line licenses, 1 cellular license, 1 internet license, and 1 cellular license. Hot Link Company Ltd. was issued an international long distance license in December 2003. The fifteen-year license required the operator to provide direct connectivity to international telecommunications hubs within three years of the contract, or by December 2006. The operator was also responsible for paying US$170,400 (5 million rupees) for the license. Hot Link Co. was a subsidiary of London Telephone Systems, a Mauritian company. Long distance services began in early 2004.
