Description

Description

The Housing for Internally Displaced Persons (IOM/ISP) project aims to create needs-based and affordable housing for internally displaced persons in Ukraine. The Russian war of aggression against Ukraine has triggered one of the largest humanitarian crises of all time and escalated the already difficult housing situation. The number of people displaced from their homes is currently estimated at over 13.2 million. According to the UNHCR, more than 6.6 million of them have fled to neighboring countries and a further 6.6 million people within Ukraine. As a result, the communities estimate that more than 10% of the displaced people will remain in their place of displacement for the long term or permanently, where the host communities are reaching their limits when it comes to providing sustainable accommodation for internally displaced persons. This project aims to increase the number of usable accommodations and the number of possible applications for these accommodations. This will be achieved, among other things, by building new buildings, remodeling or repairing buildings and strengthening the capacities of the Ukrainian government and local communities. The aim is to ensure protection against sexual exploitation and abuse by providing partners and employees on site with special training and by providing beneficiaries with comprehensive information about their rights and the relevant complaint bodies.
