Project
In Progress

This project will allow for the building envelope upgrades of numerous Public Housing structures around the province. This will include cladding upgrades with the installation of insulation on all exterior walls, high energy efficiency windows and doors. It will also include installation of attic insulation where the construction type allows. Typical 30% - 50% energy consumption and GHG reduction

Description

Description

This project will allow for the building envelope upgrades of numerous Public Housing structures around the province. This will include cladding upgrades with the installation of insulation on all exterior walls, high energy efficiency windows and doors. It will also include installation of attic insulation where the construction type allows. Typical 30% - 50% energy consumption and GHG reduction per building in those with oil fired heating systems. There are presently 112 proposed buildings in 51 different communities around the province. Five are in Cape Breton, 23 are in the Cobequid Regional Housing Authority, 23 are in the Eastern Mainland Housing Authority, 10 are in Metropolitan Halifax area and 51 are in the Western Regional Housing Authority. In addition, we propose a two year, $1 M program to install attic insulation in all buildings of the proper construction. This will include most of the buildings where upgrades will be done as well as others which would immediately benefit from this type of insulation. Several buildings have been analyzed to determine the impact of photovoltaic panel installation. There are five buildings where PV’s have been deemed effective. This proposal includes these installations. There are numerous other buildings which are considered prime candidates for PV installation and analysis will be completed to determine additional candidates for installation to be included under this program. An analysis has been completed on one building to determine the effectiveness of Net Zero upgrades. This building is included in this proposal. Similarly, there are numerous other buildings which are considered prime candidates for Net Zero upgrades and analysis will be completed to determine the five best candidates for installation to be included under this program.
