Hydropower International (HPI) developed the 2.0MW Rath Ganga small hydropower plant, in Rathnapura District. The project company was PanAsian Power (Pvt) Ltd. The project fed of the Rath Ganga River. The project company was a joint venture with New Energy, from the UK. Construction started in August 2002. The Standard PPA with Ceylon Electricity was signed in December 2002. The project was commissioned in July 2004. The turbine was supplied by Tianjin Flying Electric (China). The generator was supplied by Stamford (UK). The transformer was supplied by Lanka Transformer (Sri Lanka). The substation was supplied by ABB (India). The PPA was for a period of 15 years, until July 2019. Total project cost was ESTIMATED at US$2 million.
