Hydro Power International (Sri Lanka) developed the 6MW Wee Oya small hydropower plant, Kegalle District. The project company was Powerbase Technology (Pvt.) Ltd., a joint venture with Naturab Group (also called: Naturub Group). The project fed from the Wee Oya River. The project used a Francis Turbine. The project signed a Standard PPA in December 2002 and was commissioned in April 2005. Construction started January 2003. The turbine was supplied by Tianjin Fyling Electric (China). The generator was supplied by Marali Motori (Italy), the transformer by Univesral Transformers (India). The substation was developed by ABB (India). Total project cost was ESTIMATED at US$6 million based on a conservative US$1 million/MW.
