The project is scheduled to be installed on the Ji-Paraná river (also known as the Machadinho river), in the municipality of Machadinho D’Oeste, in Rondônia, at geographic coordinates 8º54’26.62” south latitude and 62º10’25.78” west longitude. The planned project has an installed capacity of 400 MW, firm energy of 237.56 MW and a water surface of 96.31 km2 at an elevation of 80 meters (Normal Maximum Level upstream of the dam). The competent licensing body is Ibama. The Environmental Impact Study (EIA) and the corresponding Environmental Impact Report (RIMA) were accepted by the licensing body, Ibama, in December 2017. Following the licensing procedure, two public hearings were called, which took place on the 6th and 04/07/2022, the first in the headquarters of the municipality of Machadinho do Oeste and in the village of Tabajara, both in the state of Rondônia. Currently, the licensing process is suspended due to Public Civil Action 1005574-06.2021.4.01.4100 filed by the MPF and MPE-RO and which had an injunction decision in the first instance. This decision calls for the complementation and inclusion of studies concerning traditional communities.
