The project will reinforce the Government's efforts in structural adjustment by improving the availability both of fuel and appliances, and by reducing the impact of adjustment on the low and middle income segments of the population. The project consists of: (i) power system reinforcement in Mozambique's cities together with connection of houses, provision of coal stoves, reinforcement of kerosene and LPG distribution facilities, improvements in wood fuel supplies, and provision of stoves, lamps, and drums and cans; (ii) technical assistance and consultancy support to reinforce the operation of the LPG, electricity and petroleum distribution companies; and (iii) the establishment of a biomass energy unit in the Ministry of Agriculture.
