Huai'an Sewage Treatment and Recycling Facilities

The project includes the expansion of the existing Huaian Second Sewage Treatment Plant and the associated sewage system in the city of Huaian, Jiangsu Province. In detail, the project includes (1) the capacity expansion of the existing Huaian STP sewage treatment plant by 50,000 m³/d to 150,000 m³/d; (2) the extension of the existing sewage network by 49.2 km, including the construction of three pumping stations; (3) the construction of an additional treatment stage to produce process water from the treated wastewater with a capacity of 50,000 m³/d, including the construction of 13.2 km of distribution network; (4) the construction of a sludge dewatering plant with a capacity of 200 t/d. The construction of the process water plant is an innovative element of the project, which has not yet been implemented as standard in China. The planned use as cooling water or for irrigation of green spaces will enable significant savings to be made in the scarce resource of drinking water. In addition to a KfW development loan, the financing will be secured from funds from the local government (Huaian Municipal Government).
