In August of 2005, Asia Water Technology Ltd (AWT) of Singapore purchased an existing 10,000 cubic meters per day capacity water treatment plant in Huaiyuan City, Anhui Province under a 20-year concession agreement. AWT purchased the assets for RMB5.61 million (US$692,000) from the state-owned Yuanquan (Huai Yuan) Tapwater Co.. Huaiyuan City had a population of around 1.29 million.

Description | In August of 2005, Asia Water Technology Ltd (AWT) of Singapore purchased an existing 10,000 cubic meters per day capacity water treatment plant in Huaiyuan City, Anhui Province under a 20-year concession agreement. AWT purchased the assets for RMB5.61 million (US$692,000) from the state-owned Yuanquan (Huai Yuan) Tapwater Co.. Huaiyuan City had a population of around 1.29 million. To operate the plant, AWT incorporated a wholly-owned subsidiary, Bangbu Xinya Water Services Co., Ltd. Along with the provincial government’s plan to cease the opening of new wells and close off existing wells in a bid to switch the city’s source of water from well water to treated tapwater, the plant’s current operating capacity of approximately 40% to 50% of potential was expected to increase to 90% within 3 to 5 years. http://www.listedcompany.com/ir/asiawater/newsroom/AWT-Announcement-Huai_Yuan.pdf |
