Huancayo - Huancavelica rail rehabilitation project

The 'Tren Macho' train, which covers the 128 Km Huancayo - Huancavelica route, re-started operations in December 2011, after being out of service for five years. This PPP project involves the upgrade and modernization of the mentioned rail line. The preferred bidder will be responsible for the design, upgrade, finance, operation and maintenance of the line during the 30 year concession period. It will be also responsible for the provision of the rolling stock, among others. The train provides transportation of cargo and passengers for the towns of Huancayo, Huancán, Huayucachi, Viques and Cullhuas (Junín); and those of Ñahuimpuquio, Mariscal Cáceres, Izcuchaca, Pilchaca, Cuenca, Acoria, Yauli and Huancavelica (Huancavelica). The maximum speed of the train will be 96 kilometers per hour for passengers and 64 for cargo transportation. Besides improving of 128 km of railroad the private partner will perform changing of 15 bridges, modernization of the 7 stations, construction of a workshop yard, auxiliary areas, signaling systems, communications and telecommunications. The project will be implemented in two stages: Huancayo-Mariscal Cáceres and Mariscal Cáceres-Huancavelica.
