Description
Description | Background. Today, very powerful technologies such as neurotechnologies and artificial intelligence use data about the human brain or human behaviour, in many cases with the aim of controlling or influencing people's lives. The legal and ethical framework for neuroethologies is currently being developed in Chile, which is a pioneer in this field. Also in the European Union, the Artificial Intelligence Act, the GDPR and other sources highlight the issues related to technologies that can affect the human brain and human behaviour (see, for example, Article 5 of the AIA). Rationale/Justification. Knowledge of the relevance and risks of such technologies is poor, particularly in university education, both among lawyers and scientists. Nevertheless, it is very important to educate the new generations of students on the above issues, as well as the training of researchers and other professionals. Objectives. The project therefore aims to establish a prestigious Jean Monnet Chair at the Universidad Autónoma de Chile, which will focus on teaching, research and other activities related to the ethical and legal issues of neurotechnologies and AI. These activities will be aimed at students at all levels in the Faculties of Law, Engineering and Medicine, and will be open to researchers and other professionals from various fields (legal and ethical studies, computer science, psychology, medicine). The proposed Chairholder is an academic (Professor Isabel Cornejo-Plaza) with at least 20 years of national and international scientific and professional experience in the field of ethics and law in bioethics, neurotechnologies and artificial intelligence. Outputs: i) Research activities on cultural, legal and ethical issues of biotechnologies; ii) New teaching courses for students at different levels of law, engineering, medicine and other scientific faculties; iii) Livinglabs and other multidisciplinary activities; iv) Other activities: i.e.to be completed |
