Description
Description | Opportunity Humber College was experiencing rapid growth and needed to accommodate its expanding student body. In partnership with the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities and Infrastructure Ontario, Humber College decided to procure a new Learning Resource Commons for its North Campus. Challenges Completing construction with minimal disruption to the current student body. Innovations The Learning Resource Centre was the first post-secondary project delivered through alternative financing procurement (AFP) in Ontario Results The Learning Resource Commons is a 260,000-square-foot academic support and student services facility has space for more than 2,200 students. The building also includes group and independent study spaces; a new library; a student gallery and showcase space; a Student Support Centre; additional space for the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences and college administration; and Student Access, Wellness and Development Centre. The building features a green roof, solar panels, energy-efficient lighting and designated carpool parking spots. “The completion of the Learning Resource Commons is an exciting milestone, and I’m pleased it was delivered on time and on budget. Through projects such as this, our government is investing in our economy, creating jobs, and building spaces to train the highly skilled and educated workforce that is needed for the future.” - Brad Duguid, Minister of Economic Development, Employment and Infrastructure “Infrastructure Ontario is pleased to have partnered with Humber College to deliver the new Learning Resource Commons, the first post-secondary project delivered under the AFP model. We take a great deal of pride in seeing this project completed because we know the positive impact it will have on the community.” - Brett Clark, President and CEO of Infrastructure Ontario |
