Why Humus? Humus is the core part of the soil, the dark organic material in soils providing fertility. Humus is what is left from the before and is what we have for starting the new. We are facing hard times, full of volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity (VUCA), which is impacting more and more people's general well-being and mental health, generating anxiety, a sense of loss, discouragement, and social isolation, among others. This is rooted both at the societal level (ex. increasing discrimination, racism, gender discrimination, hate speech, and war) and at the environmental level (climate crisis-related impact and pandemic diseases like Covid-19). We believe that a key perspective to cope with such a VUCA’s time is to build a society with a restored spirit of community, able to face, in a connected and supportive way, societal and environmental challenges for our societies' wellbeing. Humus is a 3-years VTs project based in 5 different European countries. The project will consist of 7 volunteering teams activities, with particular attention to international and in-country volunteers at their first mobility experience and coming from disadvantaged backgrounds (such as youth with fewer opportunities, NEETs, LGBTQ+, Roma communities, asylum seekers and migrants of 1st and 2nd generation). We aim to focus on supporting mental health and the general well-being of people and youth across Europe by fostering a significant community spirit and resilience. To achieve this, we are going to develop VT activities based on the following specific objectives: OBJ1. Practising Green: to promote and support a healthy lifestyle and community action on climate and sustainability OBJ2. Teaching Communities: To promote a sense of community to fight related social causes that lead to unhealthy societies OBJ.3 Beyond: To guarantee sustainable exploitation and outreach of project results
