Description | In 2001 Hung Nghiep Formosa began development a 126 MW coal power plant at its textile complex in southern Dong Nai province. Formosa planned provide power to local factories and to sell power to Electricite de Vietnam (EVN, the state-owned utility), under a power purchase agreement signed in 2001, at a price of US$ 4.5 cents per kWh for the first 60 MW. However, after the plant was completed in March 2004, the plant remained unused due to a dispute over the electricity sale price. By the end of 2005, the plant was operational and supplying power to EVN. Hung Nghiep Formosa was owned by Formosa Plastics Group (Taiwan). The plant cost US$87 million. None None |
