Description

Description

Hunter Street station is part of the $29 billion Metro West rail line between Sydney CBD and Westmead. It will be Australia's largest underground rail cavern, measuring 20 metres tall, 28 metres wide, and 180 metres long, and is forecast to be the busiest metro station in Sydney when it opens in 2032. The station is being built following the completion of tunnelling, which included the use of a 1100-tonne tunnel boring machine named "Jessie" that excavated 2.3 kilometres from The Bays station to Hunter Street. The station will be fitted out with concrete, tracks, and vital equipment, and will include an underground pedestrian link connecting Wynyard, Hunter Street, and Martin Place stations. The project is complex due to its scale and engineering challenges, and the station is costing the government $1.5 billion, making it the most expensive on Sydney's metro network.
