Description

Description

The State government is working to take control of Phase I of the 69.2-km Hyderabad Metro Rail project from L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad by the end of March 2026. Concurrently, Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) is planning to introduce an elevated, battery-operated pod transit system to improve last-mile connectivity. The pilot project for this automated Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) system is planned for the Raidurg-Kukatpally route, linking metro stations with nearby residential areas via an elevated track. HMRL has issued a tender to hire a consultant for technical and financial feasibility studies and design of the pod system, which can carry 4-6 passengers per pod and handle up to 10,000 passengers per hour. The project is expected to be developed under a public-private partnership model with a common fare card integration for metro and pod services.
