Description | The gates are 34 years old and have been in service since 1988. During the cold winter months, December, January and February, these gates are opened daily to keep them from freezing shut. Over the years, the seals are getting worn and causing more leakage and this leakage is causing the gates to freeze shut more often. Once the gates are froze shut, portable gas heaters are used to thaw. With new heating elements, the corners will not freeze as easily and the gates will operate easier. |
