Description | The hydro power plant on the Jayakwadi dam in Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, commissioned in 1976, has a capacity to generate 12 MW of electricity. It has been shut since December 2023 for maintenance work due to vibrations in the turbine that could cause major damage if continued to be used. Three companies have shown interest in handling the maintenance work, and their proposals have been sent to Maharashtra State Power Generation Company (MAHAGENCO). The plant can start electricity generation in just five minutes, useful during peak electricity demand, with a per unit cost of 50.56 paisa, lower than solar power, and water used to run turbines is pumped back to the reservoir. |
