Hydrogen Highway Project

A three-year project funded by Maritime Research and Innovation UK, called Hydrogen Highway, focused on using offshore wind farms to generate electricity and deploy redundant offshore oil and gas facilities as hydrogen generation platforms. The project aims to generate green hydrogen at about half the current cost by using old oil and gas rigs as hydrogen production platforms. The hydrogen produced is containerised and shipped to UK ports using autonomous vessels, reducing the need for pipeline infrastructure. The hydrogen can be used to fuel vessels, power port infrastructure, and trucks for intermodal transportation.
