Description
Description | The Directive 2014/94/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 22 October 2014 on the deployment of alternative fuels infrastructure defines a common framework of measures for the deployment of alternative fuels infrastructure in the European Union in order to minimise dependence on oil and to mitigate the environmental impact of transport. It sets out minimum requirements for the building-up of alternative fuels infrastructure, including hydrogen. The current lack of infrastructure for storage, transport and distribution of hydrogen is an important obstacle to development of the subsequent market. Public interventions stimulating the implementation of Hydrogen infrastructure is therefore necessary. Moreover, by supporting zero emission transport, the Project is contributing to the objectives of the European Green Deal, as set out in the Communication from the Commission COM(2019) 640 of 11 December 2019. The overall Project aims to decarbonise heavy-duty and light-duty road transport in Europe by rolling-out four publicly accessible hydrogen refuelling stations (HRSs) in the Netherlands. The locations cover both core and comprehensive TEN-T road network and an urban node (Rotterdam): Ede, Horst aan de Maas, Oude Tonge and Sliedrecht. The HRSs will all provide gaseous hydrogen at pressures of 700 bar and 350 bar. Their total added capacity will be at least 1,349,040 kg H2 annually and expected sales of around 338,000 kg green H2 annually. As synergetic element, the project includes an electrolyser in Oude Tonge to supply all the HRS, based on 100% locally produced solar and wind power for electricity supply and a sustainable use of water resources for the production of green hydrogen for the purpose of transport. The alkaline water electrolyser has a capacity of 1 MWe which results in 150,000 kg of yearly hydrogen production. By replacing fossil fuel with green hydrogen, green house gas emissions are expected to be reduced by 8.707.743 tons CO2 equivalents in the project's 15 years reference period. It is part of the global project aiming at the development of a network of multi-energy retail-stations with sustainable fuels and energy at logistic hubs, including 24 HRS to be deployed within the next 5 years. |
