HYDROLOOP Wastewater to Low-Carbon Hydrogen Project

HYDROLOOP is a project led by the University of South Wales that integrates wastewater treatment with hydrogen production in a closed loop system. It uses treated wastewater as feedstock for hydrogen generation via an innovative electrolyser, capturing and reusing oxygen to enhance treatment. The system aims to reduce energy demand, lower emissions including nitrous oxide, and eliminate the need for freshwater in hydrogen production. It will be demonstrated at pilot scale at a wastewater treatment plant in south Wales.
