Description

Creating Space in Harmony with the Environment The Hyundai Marine & Fire Insurance Gonjiam Training Institute was designed to build a new space harmonized with the surrounding environment, fully reflecting the excellent natural topography of Gonjiam, after demolishing the existing small and outdated training institute. Rather than going for a flamboyant interior design, the goal was to complete an architecture with refined beauty that would naturally blend in with the forests nearby the site. The narrow terrain with steep slopes has been optimally arranged to accommodate different spaces, and the substructure of the residential building is built as a piloti to create a wind path in order not to stagnate the humid mountain and valley wind. All the other training spaces are based on environment-friendly designs, allowing for natural lighting and ventilation. Building Enhancing “Corporate Status” and “User Convenience” The training institute exudes the company’s status through its main entrance design. Traditional Korean architectural style of 'Nuha' entrance was applied, allowing visitors to pass through a narrow aisle and then climb up the stairs before encountering a vast open space before them, which  represents the great value owned by the company. Moreover, through a pre-design review before the actual construction, the sports arena adjacent to the rooms was moved to the grass garden to minimize noise when using sports facilities and the lights penetrating the rooms. As a result the sports arena being located in a separate space within the training institution helped to boost the independent location of the space and user convenience.
