Hyundai-POSCO EAF Steel Mill Project in Louisiana

South Korea’s Hyundai and POSCO have chosen Italian mill equipment provider Danieli to build several installations at their proposed steel mill in Louisiana. The project includes two electric-arc furnaces with secondary metallurgy, two thick slab casters, and two slab reheating furnaces. The direct reduction plant, supplied by the ENERGIRON consortium, will have a nominal capacity of 2.5 million metric tons per year of hot and cold direct-reduced iron (DRI), designed to be hydrogen future-ready and equipped with carbon capture technology. The facility will produce 650,000 metric tons of hot-rolled coil and 2.05 million metric tons of cold-rolled coil annually, with operations slated to begin in 2029.
