Description | Based on numerous research reports and data gathering from groups vulnerable to discrimination, discrimination and racism in its different forms are significant problems in Finland. The Finnish Non-discrimination Act is since 2015 in place to respond to these problems, with duties for various stakeholders both to prevent and tackle discrimination in its various forms, and also to promote actively non-discrimination. The promotional duties of the Act are not sufficiently fulfilled, and determined efforts are needed to support effectiveness of the legal framework. The Well planned project is a national project coordinated by the Finnish Ministry of Justice, supported by the National Institute for Welfare and Health and the Association for Local and Regional Authorities in Finland. The overall objective is to combat structural discrimination and racism in Finland by boosting practical and professional skills of equality planning. The project will identify multipliers of equality planning skills, and train trainers in different sectors. The project will promote availability of expert support and tools to actors, who have the duty to promote non-discrimination and equality. The project will promote networking among professionals working to promote non-discrimination and equality. The project will also develop practices of cooperation between NGOs and public authorities in equality planning. Specific objectives: 1) to increase understanding of the purpose of equality planning 2) to improve the quality and effectiveness of equality plans as a tool to tackle discrimination 3) to produce targeted material and support for the key actors obliged to equality planning 4) to strengthen participation of CSOs and groups vulnerable to discrimination in the local equality planning Activities of the project are: train the trainers programmes, networking activities, development of data collection, community-based data collection, strategic development of communication. |
