The proposed project is located in Newton County. The proposed improvement will widen the existing Interstate 20 between Alcovy Road and State Route 142 from four through lanes to six through lanes (3 lanes in each direction) with a 40-foot paved median with barrier and 14-foot outside shoulders. The existing bridges over Alcovy Road will be replaced and the existing bridges over CSX Railroad will be widened. All of the widening on Interstate 20 will be within the existing right of way. In addition, Alcovy Road will be widened to four lanes (2 lanes in each direction) with bike lanes and a 20-foot raised median with a variable width right of way. Alcovy Road will have urban shoulders which will include curb and gutter and sidewalks. The widening of Alcovy Road begins approximately 2600 feet south of the crossing with I-20 and extends north to the crossing with Harland Drive. The total project length (Interstate 20 including ramps and Alcovy Road) is approximately 3.99 miles.
